Cornwall v Herefordshire at Werrington CC

Bank Holiday Monday 1st May 2023

NCCA T20 Competition (game 1 of 2 on the day)

Herefordshire 84-8 from 20 overs

Cornwall 85-6 from 18.4 overs

Start time: 11am

Weather: Cloudy with sunny intervals, stiff chilly breeze, the wind factor was particularly noticeable at the scoreboard end of the ground.

Attendance: Around 25 at the start, increased to around 80 spectators by lunchtime.

Match Rating: 7/10 Cornwall made early gains with the ball never letting the visitors settle. Despite some tight Herefordshire bowling the home side batted confidently, they eased to victory without panic.

Provisions: Salmon sandwiches, pork pie, slice of quiche & a bag of ready salted crisps.

Bring Your Own Chair Necessity? Probably a wise choice. There are 3 or 4 benches down one side of the ground & another 3 benches adjacent to the digital scoreboard but not much else. Some seats at the pavilion tended to be hogged by players and officials.

View of the game: Best up at the scoreboard end. The pitch rises at the square when viewed from the side nearest the road (where some of the benches are positioned) which means you can lose sight of the ball towards the opposite boundary. There are decent vantage points between the entrance gate and pavilion but most of the space is taken up by spectators sat in cars.

General Facilities: Werrington have an impressive scenic setting for a cricket ground as it nestles on the edge of the countryside park estate. The pavilion compliments the location wonderfully well. Its wooden structure and tasteful rustic interior get top marks. Looked like some jolly good lunches were being served up for the players, officials and VIPs. There is a bar for the general public and a pop up barbecue grill positioned just outside was doing a steady trade in early-doors bacon sandwiches and lunchtime burgers (all at reasonable prices).

Here's some more of the snaps taken during a most enjoyable day:
